When I was asked to join Data Room Services in 2003 I leapt at the chance. I knew from first-hand experience that the company was offering a much-needed and valuable service - a virtual data room. As a lawyer, I had worked with top banks such as the Commerzbank and Lehman Brothers, spending more time than I want to remember working on large transactions in physical data rooms overseeing the due diligence process. It wasn't only expensive, it was time-consuming and often frustrating work but there was no good alternative.
Providing a viable alternative was the reason our company's founders, two corporate finance specialists in the Mergers & Acquisitions departments at Siemens and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, decided to start up Data Room Services in 2001 in the first place. They wanted to offer online due diligence services to all those who, like them and me, needed an efficient online alternative to physical data rooms.
In 2003, after much research, they launched a virtual data room, DRSdigital®, basing its design on their personal knowledge of the industry and its needs. Today, although Data Room Services still offers and supports physical data rooms, our easy-to-use and secure virtual data room has become the alternative of choice for most clients and is used by 95% of our clients.
